And the artist has added a female watching from a distant window, nearly falling off the side of the painting. Who is she to represent? A mother? Grandmother? Maid?
The man in the center is obviously representing Rome, or Paternalism. The red cloak is especially telling. It is not nearly as prominent in the School Boys Quarreling painting, but it is inferred -- since the front of the center schoolboy character is red.
